The crescent moon is a curve, and a curve is easy to wear. It's the softest of the celestial motifs, and the quietest.
Most jewellery motifs are closed shapes: a heart, a cross, a star. The crescent moon is the only one that is an open curve, and you can see the difference when it's worn.
A curve follows the line of the body instead of simply resting on it. It traces the hollow of the collarbone, it moves with you, and it doesn't create the small visual jolt that a closed motif always does. It's the softest motif in our collection, and the easiest to wear for a long time.
A moon necklace doesn't make a statement either. It suggests night, cycles, calm, but it doesn't claim to belong to anything. It's jewellery you choose for what it does, not for what it says.
The crescent moon necklace is the most common shape and the most recognisable. Fine, it becomes almost abstract; thicker, it becomes a piece in its own right. Its upper tip is often where the pendant hangs from, which tilts it slightly, and that tilt is what gives it movement.
The half moon necklace is rarer and more graphic: a filled half disc, one straight line and one curve. It reads like a drawing.
The enamelled tarot card belongs to a completely different world, that of old imagery and engravings: the moon is drawn on a small card, among the other charms. It tells a story where the plain crescent is content simply to be a shape.
This is what sets the motif apart: it's very often looked for in company.
The sun and moon necklace is the most sought-after pair. The two are opposites on every count: the curve and the disc, night and day, cold and warmth. It's exactly that contrast that holds the pair together. See our sun necklaces.
The moon and star necklace works differently: both belong to the same sky, and the star simply fills the hollow of the crescent. It's a calmer composition. See our star necklaces.
Our charm necklaces let you bring all three together on one chain, and take one off depending on your mood.
A useful clarification, because this motif is often confused: moonstone is a semi-precious stone, white and milky with bluish glints. It isn't a motif but a material, and we don't offer it.
Our moons are metal shapes, sometimes set with diamanté or highlighted with enamel. The exact material of each piece is listed in its details, and we'd rather say so here than let the wrong expectation build.
A silver moon necklace is the moon at home. Cool metal, white light, a crisp curve: it's the finish that suits the motif best, and the one that captures night most closely. More in our silver necklaces.
A gold moon necklace changes register. It becomes warmer, older, closer to the imagery of engravings and amulets. It's the version for beige outfits and sun-kissed skin. More in our gold necklaces.
Neither is more right than the other, but the difference is more marked here than on the closed motifs.
The crescent reads well at collarbone height, where its curve stays visible and echoes the curve of the neck. Lower down, the shape looks flatter; higher up, it looks tighter.
It layers very well, because an open curve doesn't compete with anything. A short moon with a longer, plain chain necklace adds depth straight away.
The chains are adjustable: the extender chain lets you find the exact height as you fasten it.
We instinctively link the moon with the evening, and that's a mistake in how it's worn.
A fine gold crescent works perfectly through a day at the office: its curve is discreet, it gives off no harsh sparkle, and it sits under a collar without any bulk. It's in the evening that it changes role, when low light catches its edges.
In other words, it's a motif with a double life, one of the few in our collection you don't need to change between morning and a night out.
Made from stainless steel: this metal won't tarnish on the skin and doesn't leave the green mark of common alloys.
Take it off before the shower, the pool and the gym. Put your perfume on before your necklace, never after: alcohol damages the finish and dulls the diamanté. Store it somewhere dry, in its gift box, away from anything that might rub. A soft, dry cloth is all it takes to bring back its shine.
Every necklace is sent in its gift box, ready to give just as it is.
