The cross is the oldest pendant still worn today. It's worn for faith, as something passed down, or simply for its line.
A cross necklace isn't worn for just one reason, and that explains why it has come through every era without ever disappearing.
There is faith, the most obvious one. A Christian cross worn at the neck is a sign, discreet or confident depending on its size, and it's chosen the way you'd choose exactly the right word.
There is inheritance. Many crosses aren't bought but received: from a grandmother, for a first communion, at a birth. It's one of the few pieces of jewellery given with a thought for what it will mean twenty years from now.
And there is line. Two crossing bars: it's the simplest shape a pendant can take. It reads instantly, it works at any size, and it doesn't date. Many people wear it for that alone, with no other message.
None of these three reasons cancels out the others, and nobody has to choose which one they show. That's what our cross necklaces for women are made for.
It's the one decision that matters, and it changes the whole look.
A small cross necklace on a fine chain is barely noticed. It sits under a collar, it goes with everything, it keeps you company without ever taking over. It's the everyday version, the one you never take off, and the dainty cross necklace is exactly that.
A larger cross becomes the focus. It needs an open neckline to breathe and a simple outfit so it doesn't compete with the rest. It stands as a piece in its own right, not as a detail.
Between the two, the length of the chain does the rest: the lower the cross sits, the more it shows.
A gold cross necklace gives the cross warmth and roundness; it's the most classic finish for this motif, the one of jewellery handed down. More in our gold necklaces.
A silver cross necklace makes it crisper, more graphic, more contemporary. The edges stand out and the shape shows more clearly against dark clothes. More in our silver necklaces.
As everywhere in our collection, the simplest guide is what you already wear: match the cross to your watch or your ring, and the question is settled.
A cross is worn for a long time, often every day, and sometimes for years without being taken off. It's the pendant in our collection most exposed to everyday wear.
Stainless steel meets exactly that need: it won't tarnish on the skin and doesn't leave the green mark of common alloys. A cross in precious silver, on the other hand, darkens over time and needs regular care.
It's a deliberate choice: we sell jewellery made to be worn, not an object to keep in a box. The exact material of each piece is listed in its details.
The cross is one of the few pieces of jewellery where the occasion often comes before the choice. A christening, a first communion, a confirmation, a birth: these are moments when you look for something that will last.
It's also given outside of any ceremony, to someone who used to wear one and lost it: it's probably the most fitting gift you can give in this register, because it puts something right.
Every necklace is sent in its gift box, ready to give just as it is, and no price appears inside.
The cross doesn't like competition. Worn alone on an open neckline, it's exactly where it belongs.
If you'd like to layer, play with heights rather than motifs: a plain chain necklace, shorter or longer, with no pendant, lets the cross remain the only focal point. Avoid pairing it with another strong motif: a heart or a star at the same height muddles the message.
The cross is one of the few pendants where the chain matters as much as the motif, because it's so often worn alone and for a long time.
A fine chain leaves all the space to the cross and goes unnoticed. It's the default choice, and the safest. A bolder chain changes the register: the cross becomes one element among others rather than the only focus, and the whole look feels more contemporary.
Our chain necklaces can also be worn on their own, if you like to switch from day to day.
Take it off before the shower, the pool and the gym. Put your perfume on before your necklace, never after. Store it somewhere dry, in its gift box, away from anything that might rub. A soft, dry cloth is all it takes to bring back its shine.
